Busy Barn Farm Adventures Secures Historic Back-to-Back Governor’s Tourism Award Nominations

JANESVILLE, WI – The Wisconsin Agricultural Tourism Association (WATA) is celebrating a landmark achievement as Busy Barn Farm Adventures has been nominated for a Governor’s Tourism Rising Star Award for the second consecutive year (2025 and 2026). This rare back-to-back recognition underscores the farm’s rapid ascent as a premier Midwest destination and a cornerstone of Jefferson County’s tourism economy.

Owners Mitch and Afton Krysiak, who transitioned from careers in firefighting and education to take over the farm in 2022, have been nominated once again in the Rising Star category. Their innovative leadership has transformed the venue into a high-impact attraction, drawing over 35,000 annual visitors and generating critical room tax revenue for the Fort Atkinson area.

“These nominees exemplify the spirit of Wisconsin tourism—bringing fresh ideas, exceptional service, and unforgettable experiences to visitors,” said WATA Executive Director Sheila Everhart. “Busy Barn’s consecutive nominations reflect their unwavering commitment to excellence and their role in solidifying our state’s reputation as a top-tier agricultural tourism destination”.

A Legacy of Consecutive Growth:

  • Sustained Economic Impact: Since taking the helm, the Krysiaks have hosted nearly 140 events at The Gathering Barn and increased off-season visitation through their “Winter on the Farm” programming.
  • Educational Excellence: The farm has provided hands-on agricultural learning to over 4,500 students annually, bridging the gap between urban centers like Milwaukee and Wisconsin’s rural heritage.
  • Community Integration: Beyond tourism, Busy Barn remains a community hub, hosting local fundraisers, proms, and outreach for future agricultural students.

Agricultural tourism is a key driver of Wisconsin’s economy, contributing to the state’s $25.8 billion tourism impact. “Agricultural tourism is more than just a weekend visit—it’s a vital economic engine that supports local businesses and strengthens rural communities,” Everhart added.

Winners of the 2026 Governor’s Tourism Awards will be announced during the Wisconsin Governor’s Conference on Tourism (WIGCOT) on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in Milwaukee.
